Phoenix Magazine has recognized three innovative healthcare leaders as 2025 Healthcare Heroes. These extraordinary individuals are making transformative impacts in mental health, disability services, and women’s healthcare across the Valley.
BRIAN CARLISLE, RN, FNP-C – CEO, HORIZON RECOVERY
Brian Carlisle identified a critical gap in teen mental health services and took decisive action. The former paramedic and ER nurse invested personal resources to launch Horizon Recovery, which now operates six Valley locations.
“In a sense, it’s a good business success story, but the fact that we are growing so quickly is not a good reflection on the need,” says Carlisle, whose approach prioritizes both exceptional patient care and employee support.
GABRIELA SALCIDO – FOUNDER, ROMAN EMPIRE AGENCY
Since 2010, Roman Empire Agency has pioneered innovative approaches for individuals with developmental disabilities and autism to achieve greater independence. Under Salcido’s leadership, the agency has expanded to serve over 1,000 clients across multiple states.
Her nomination highlighted her “unwavering dedication to empowering individuals with disabilities, fostering independence and expanding access to essential services” – qualities that have created meaningful impact for thousands of families.
IMEN MAAROUFI CLARK – FOUNDER AND CEO, PRICKLY PEAR HEALTH
Imen Maaroufi Clark’s Prickly Pear Health app represents a breakthrough for women navigating menopause. The innovative technology utilizes speech and wearable device biomarkers to motivate healthy lifestyle changes, help physicians reduce patient dismissals, and potentially detect early brain conditions like Alzheimer’s.
“We believe if we start [early], we can do so much to prevent diseases instead of treating them,” says Clark, whose preventative approach is changing how women’s health is addressed.
